About the HMC: The HMCNow in its 60th year, the Huntington Men's Chorus originated with a group of Huntington men having considerable vocal talent and musical experience meeting with James C. Doty, a music teacher in the Huntington Public Schools, to form the vocal ensemble that has continuously entertained the people of Huntington these many years. At the first rehearsal in September 1949, James Doty was appointed the Chorus's Musical Director; the group adopted its name the "Huntington Men's Chorus"; and Frost Tinklepaugh was elected the Chorus's first president. The Huntington Men’s Chorus organized itself along the lines of the acclaimed University Glee Club in New York City.
Jim Bobo, only the 2nd accompanist in our history, receiving our thanks during the Fall 2001 concert. Since its first concert, the Chorus has steadily grown in membership from the original 34 to over 90 active singing members today, and has presented a concert every Spring and Fall for the past 60 years. The Chorus also sings at various local churches, synagogues, and civic functions throughout the year. Within the past few years, the Chorus participated in two award ceremonies at which the French Government presented Jubilé de Liberté Medals of Honor to the survivors of the Invasion of Normandy. The Chorus has also performed, to critical acclaim, in other choral programs within the tri-state area -- including the special 1996 concert in New York City's Carnegie Hall with several other choruses.
The Huntington Men's Chorus at our 50th Anniversary Concert The Chorus, a founding member of the Huntington Arts Council, is a self-supporting non-profit organization, funding its budget from membership fees and generous contributions from individuals and companies.
