About the HMC: The Scholarship FundANNOUNCING 2008 SCHOLARSHIP WINNER! To foster within the Huntington community an interest in and appreciation of male choral music, as well as to promote service to the Huntington community, the Huntington Men’s Chorus solicited applications from high school seniors who reside in, and attend a high school in the Town of Huntington for a single scholarship of $2,000. The 2008 winner was Zachary Grill. Zachary is currently a Freshman at Temple University in Philadelphia, studying Music Education with a Vocal Concentration.
ANNOUNCING 2009 SCHOLARSHIP TO BE GIVEN BY THE HUNTINGTON MEN’S CHORUS INSTRUCTIONS The Huntington Men’s Chorus is now accepting applications for a scholarship of $2000. Applicants must be high school seniors who attend one of the following schools: Cold Spring Harbor HS, Commack HS, Elwood-John Glenn HS, Half Hollow Hills East HS, Half Hollow Hills West HS, Harborfields HS, Huntington HS, Northport HS, St. Anthony’s HS, Walt Whitman HS. The scholarship is open to both male and female singers. Applicants must: 1. Have experience singing in their high school chorus and/or an out-of-school choral group. 2. Intend to enroll at an accredited college and continue singing while there. Applicants are not required to major in music at the college. 3. Have participated actively in community service and extracurricular activities during high school. To apply for the scholarship, applicants must: 1. Fill out the attached the Application for Scholarship form found on the HMC website (www.huntingtonmenschorus.com) in the About HMC section. 2. Prepare the following required separate sheets of information: a. List of colleges to which they have applied and their acceptance status. b. List of their singing experience during high school in both school and/or non-school organizations. Include music courses taken, vocal lessons, recitals, performances, and awards. c. List of their participation in community service and extracurricular activities. d. (Optional) A cover letter or additional information in support of their application. 3. Prepare a cassette tape, CD, DVD, or .mp3 file of their singing one song of their choice. 4. Obtain confidential letters of recommendation from both their choral director and guidance counselor in support of their scholarship application. Note: Choral directors and guidance counselors are not limited in the number of applicants they may recommend for the scholarship. 5. Submit (a) their completed Application for Scholarship form, (b) their required separate sheets of information, (c) their recording of one song of their choice, and (d) letters of recommendation from their choral director and guidance counselor to HMC Scholarship Committee, Huntington Men’s Chorus, P.O. Box 763, Huntington, NY 11743. Applications must be postmarked no later than February 28, 2009. The winner of the scholarship will be announced by April 15, 2009 and the award presented to the recipient during the Spring Concert of the Huntington Men’s Chorus on Saturday, May 2.
