Fun Facts and HistoryFun Facts From the archives: Just like the United States the HMC has also had father and son serve as presidents (Frank and Tom Lavery.) The major difference being we elected both of ours to two terms each! In 1999 the Chorus celebrated it's 50th anniversary concert. Of the 34 charter members one, Henry Roy, was still an active member and sang in the concert. Henry had a solo section in "Down in the Valley." Recent history: For a very short time following our 50th anniversary concert we had John Williams as president and Tom Jones as conductor. Not too shabby! Even more recent: When Judy's name was announce for the first time as accompanist at the May 4th concert, Judy (who was backstage) gave a huge victory sign with both arms and jumped up and down with excitement like a gymnast who had just won an Olympic Gold Medal. The current active member with the most longevity with the Huntington Men's Chorus was thought to be a tossup between John Williams (B1) and Don Thompson (B2). After closely examining the records, it turns out that Don beat John out by one concert (Spring 1968 Concert.) Thus Don has sang in the most concerts with the HMC. But Joe MacDonald (T2) has both John and Don beat. He sang in the Fall 1960 Concert, although he took a break for several years before re-joining the HMC. So Joe MacDonald is the current HMC member who sang the earliest with the HMC. A scary thought - at one point they were contemplating changing the logo:
